Am I healthy? Am I doing things that are helping my body? How do I know?
People are always saying how nice it would be if the body could tell you how it is doing on the inside. We have forgotten the language of the body - it is constantly trying to tell us how we are doing but we have been told to ignore the signs and just stop the symptom. Did you know, inflammation is a sign that things are not going well and that changes need to be made? Stomach upsets are another sign that the foods you are eating are not ok with your body. Brain fog, low energy, anger, irritability, and depression, are also signs that things need to change. How many people realize that there are many things the body is saying to you even years before you get sick? Most of us would agree that we do not want to suffer in any way, but many of us don’t think about the fact that we are the ones who have to make the changes in our lifestyle today to avoid suffering and diseases of tomorrow.
We just don’t know enough to be able to prevent suffering and somehow, we have been led to believe that disease and suffering just hit people randomly but that is so very far from the truth at least as I know it as a Holistic nutritionist.
When you think about the old saying “You are what you eat!” What have you eaten in the last 6 months? Every piece of food, drink and food-like substance you have put into your mouth is going and has gone to make up the cells in your body that keep you alive. Some cells like in the mouth are changed very rapidly but others like the liver, brain and heart are there for years. Most of us are now programmed to eat to fill desires, emotions, habits and cravings, very rarely do we truly eat because we are hungry.
Many things contribute to having a healthy, stable life, Food is a major one, yes but there are other things as well. Things like:
Sleep
Work environment
Home environment
Hormones from the whole body (not just reproductive)
Stress
Relationships
Etc, etc.
But the fact of the matter is it is far more complicated than that.
Science is now proving how important it is for our body, mind and spirit to have love, appreciation, gratitude and peace in our lives. None of these cost money but they do take training. Some of the ways to do so sound so simple but they do work.
Decide what you want in your life.
Make a list
Take an action toward that goal every day, even if it is just to get out of bed 10 minutes earlier.
When it comes to good foods and bad food there are a lot of controversies about which column everything should go in and that makes it even more frustrating and confusing for the person who is trying to make some healthy changes in their lives.
There are a few things that many of the experts are agreeing on.
White sugar is hurting our health, and it is highly addictive
The majority of packaged foods have high amounts of many different kinds of sugar in them.
The majority of packaged foods have very few natural nutrients left in them, which makes them empty of calories and fat-storage ingredients.
Processed foods carry very little healthy nutrients, if that is the majority of your food choices your body is starving of nutrients to keep your body healthy
Keeping your blood sugar at a healthy level is a high recommendation
Keeping yourself active is always a good idea 10,000-12,000 steps per day
Getting good quality sleep is very important
Surrounding yourself with a positive environment is healing. Good music, good people, good tv entertainment, good relationships
