A bit about Argan
Argan trees grow to about 8 to 10 metres and live for about 200 years. They are not damaged by the production of argan oil and, indeed, the oil production is an excellent source of employment for the Berber women in Morocco. The fruit is picked, then dried in the open air. The pulp is usually removed by hand and used for animal feed while the nuts are cracked and the kernels removed. This process is also done by hand. It takes about 40 kg of dried fruit to produce 1 litre of Argan oil. Some producers are now trying to extract the oil by mechanical means. If that is successful it will reduce the price but cost many women their livelihood.
Because the resulting oil is very expensive it is often adulterated with sunflower or another similar product. The Moroccan government checks random samples of the oil as it is being exported to ensure that it is pure but it may also be diluted by the importer so check the ingredients when you are buying it.
Safety:Caution with nut allergies. Casaroma’s oil is for external use
Although Argan is sometimes recommended as a sunscreen, it has no proven SPF although it is great post-sun for moisturizing and repair.
Uses:
Hair Reduces frizz and dryness. Adds a healthy shine and softness to the hair.
Use just a small amount to enhance natural waves and volume. Too much will flatten the hair and make it heavy.
For styling frizzy and flyaway hair.
Use with damp, freshly washed hair.
Pour a few drops in the palm of your hand and rub your hands together. Comb your fingers through the hair starting at the ends and working upward. This will replace the oils in your freshly washed hair.
Argan can also be used as an overnight hair mask.
Skin
Argan oil has a very high content of essential fatty acids and vitamin E. This makes it great for moisturizing the skin and improving hydration. It is often used for eczema and psoriasis as well as acne. It can be used pure or added to a cream or serum. It will probably take about 4 weeks to show definitive results. We like it to help increase elasticity and sagging skin on the throat and neck. Great for scars and stretch marks as well!
